FREELANCER
A ‘Top 100’ Event Manager, sustainability specialist, speaker and student mentor, I’ve worked in-house, for exhibition and conference organisers, and alongside agencies for more than 25 years.
My projects have included everything from a firework display at the Pyramids, boat parties in Venice, a TED-style event on a Manhattan rooftop and a floating golf course on the River Thames.
They make for good stories, but what excites me most is helping organisations turn everyday events into exceptional ones. Whether it's a conference, awards dinner or corporate gathering, I love finding the ideas, details and moments that elevate an event beyond expectations.
Because the best events aren't defined by their budget or scale; they're defined by the impact they have on the people in the room.
WHO I AM
Hi, I'm Jay. After more than 25 years in the events industry, I've reached the stage where I'm politely referred to as an 'industry veteran'.
I was fortunate to move into senior leadership roles early in my career and spent many years focused on strategy, budgets and business performance. But throughout that time, I always missed being closer to the action: working with people, solving problems and helping bring ambitious ideas to life.
So, I made the decision to devote more time to doing what I love most: partnering with organisers and event teams to create memorable experiences that connect, inspire and deliver results.

SUSTAINABILITY
When I started my career, sustainability in events was often less about saving the planet and more about saving money. Reducing waste made sense because every skip you filled came with a cost.
Today, sustainability is rightly seen through a much broader lens. Clients, attendees and stakeholders increasingly expect events to minimise their environmental impact while delivering meaningful social and economic value.
During the COVID lockdown, I used the opportunity to deepen my understanding of sustainability, focusing on how its principles can be applied within the events industry. I wanted to understand how we could create exceptional experiences without compromising either the quality of the event or our responsibility to the planet.
That commitment became part of my day-to-day work. In 2023, Sust* Events, where I am a director, became the first UK events company to achieve ESGmark certification.
Today, I bring that knowledge and practical experience to every freelance project, helping clients embed sustainability from the earliest planning stages through to on-site delivery, measurement and post-event carbon reporting. Because sustainability shouldn't be an add-on; it should be part of creating better events.
